Google has released a new policy roadmap addressing America's power infrastructure challenges, while announcing a major initiative to train 130,000 electrical workers to support the AI boom.

The roadmap titled “Powering a New Era of American Innovation” includes 15 proposals focused on energy generation, grid modernization, and labor development. Google is partnering with the Electrical Training Alliance to update training programs using AI, aiming for a 70% workforce boost by 2030.

The initiative will upskill 100K current workers and create 30K new apprenticeships, targeting the widening gap in qualified talent. It also builds on Google’s AI Opportunity Fund which aims to train 1M Americans in AI skills, now expanding to infrastructure-critical roles.

As AI accelerates energy demand, Google’s dual strategy—modernizing the grid and strengthening labor—seeks to ensure the U.S. remains competitive in the global AI race.
