Anthropic announced it will expand its global operations to India with a new office in Bengaluru, set to open in early 2026. The Bengaluru hub will serve as Anthropic’s second office in the Asia Pacific region after Tokyo and will play a central role in supporting India’s rapidly growing AI ecosystem. CEO and co-founder Dario Amodei is visiting India this week to meet government leaders and enterprise partners, underscoring the company’s long-term commitment to the region. “India is compelling because of the scale of its technical talent and the commitment from the Indian government to ensure the benefits of artificial intelligence reach all areas of society,” said Amodei. “There is deep alignment between the challenges India is tackling and our mission—from deploying AI across diverse languages and contexts to building frameworks for responsible governance.” Anthropic’s India operations will focus on applying AI for social impact across sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture, while also collaborating with Indian enterprises, nonprofits, and startups to drive innovation. The Bengaluru office will support India’s vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem and help develop next-generation AI solutions. According to Anthropic’s Economic Index Report, India ranks second globally in consumer usage of Claude, with heavy adoption in technical and programming-related tasks by companies such as CRED. Claude Code usage in India grew over 10x within three months of its May launch. Paul Smith, Anthropic’s Chief Commercial Officer, added that the expansion comes as Indian enterprises seek trusted AI systems that combine frontier performance with safety and reliability. The company also announced deeper investment in Indic language support — expanding Claude’s capabilities across Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu — to make AI accessible across India’s linguistic diversity.
