Cursor AI Developer Anysphere Reportedly Raises $900M at $9B Valuation

05-May-2025

TechCrunch reports that Anysphere, the developer of AI-powered coding assistant Cursor, is raising a massive $900 million round of funding. The round is being led by Thrive Capital, with strong participation from Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Accel, placing the startup's valuation at an impressive $9 billion.

This marks a significant leap from its prior valuation of $2.5 billion in January 2025. Cursor functions as an AI-integrated development environment (IDE), enabling developers to generate code using natural language commands. The tool is widely used by leading tech companies like Stripe, OpenAI, and Spotify, and competes directly with GitHub Copilot.

According to reports, Cursor facilitates the creation of nearly a billion lines of code per day — highlighting its increasing utility and market adoption. The surge in Anysphere’s valuation reflects a growing appetite among investors for scalable AI applications, particularly as funding for foundational AI models becomes increasingly capital-intensive.

In 2024 alone, AI application startups secured $8.2 billion in venture capital — more than double the amount raised the previous year. Cursor is now positioned at the forefront of the AI coding revolution with newfound capital and momentum.
