Microsoft Launches Copilot Checkout, Bringing End-to-End Shopping Inside AI Chat

Microsoft has launched Copilot Checkout, a new AI-powered commerce feature that lets users complete purchases entirely inside the Copilot chat interface. The feature allows shoppers in the U.S. to move seamlessly from product discovery to payment without ever leaving the conversational window, marking a major step toward fully integrated AI-driven commerce.


With Copilot Checkout, users can navigate the entire shopping journey—from searching for products and comparing options to finalizing payment—directly within the chat. Microsoft emphasized that retailers retain full control over transactions, inventory, and customer relationships, positioning Copilot as a facilitator rather than an intermediary marketplace.


At launch, payments are integrated with major platforms including PayPal, Shopify, and Stripe. Well-known retailers such as Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Etsy, and a wide range of Shopify-powered stores are already live on the platform, giving Copilot immediate scale across multiple retail categories.


Microsoft shared early performance signals indicating strong conversion gains. According to the company, users were twice as likely to complete a purchase via Copilot compared to traditional search flows, with shopping sessions generating 53% more purchases within a 30-minute window. Alongside checkout, Microsoft also introduced new retail-focused AI agents designed to help merchants with operations, product management, branding, and personalized shopping experiences.


Why it matters: AI-driven commerce is accelerating rapidly, with conversational interfaces increasingly replacing traditional browsing and app-based checkout flows. Microsoft says AI-powered retail traffic surged sevenfold during the recent holiday season, underscoring a broader shift in how consumers shop online.
