Meta Unveils AI-Powered Ray-Ban Smart Glasses with Built-in Display and Neural Band
18-Sep-2025
Meta on Wednesday unveiled a new pair of Ray-Ban branded smart glasses with a built-in display for apps, alerts, and directions on the right lens. These smart glasses are controlled by a wristband, called the Meta Neural Band, which detects subtle hand gestures. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the product, called Meta Ray-Ban Display, during the Meta Connect 2025 keynote. Unlike the previous Orion prototype, this product will be available for purchase starting September 30 at a price of $799.
This marks Meta’s latest attempt to establish consumer-grade smart glasses capable of performing many smartphone functions. Historically, Meta has relied on Google’s and Apple’s hardware ecosystems to reach users. While Meta has invested billions in virtual reality headsets, AI-powered smart glasses are now being positioned as the company’s strongest bet to connect with users through its own hardware.
The Meta Ray-Ban Display follows the success of earlier Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which sold millions of pairs through Meta’s eyewear partner EssilorLuxottica. The new model includes an on-board AI assistant, cameras, speakers, and microphones. The glasses allow users to connect to the cloud for internet and social media access, blending fashion with functionality. This launch highlights Meta’s ambition to compete directly with Apple and Google by offering innovative wearable AI devices.
