Meta Acquires AI Agent Startup Manus in $2B+ Deal to Accelerate Autonomous AI Strategy

30-Dec-2025

Meta has officially announced the acquisition of AI agent startup Manus in a deal reportedly valued at more than $2 billion, signaling one of the company’s most decisive moves yet in expanding its autonomous AI capabilities. The acquisition brings a mature, revenue-generating AI agent platform directly into Meta’s AI organization at a time when competition around agentic systems is intensifying across the industry.

Founded in Beijing in 2022, Manus focuses on building autonomous AI agents capable of executing complex real-world tasks such as deep research, software development, and multi-step problem solving with minimal human supervision. The company has seen exceptional commercial traction, reportedly surpassing $100 million in annual revenue within just eight months of launch — a rare milestone for an AI startup at this stage.

Earlier this year, Manus relocated its headquarters to Singapore and, following the acquisition, will fully sever its remaining China-based operations and ownership ties. This move aligns with Meta’s broader geopolitical and regulatory considerations as it continues to scale AI infrastructure globally.

As part of the deal, Manus CEO Xiao Hong will join Meta’s leadership team under COO Javier Olivan, alongside approximately 100 Manus employees. Strategically, the acquisition gives Meta immediate access to a production-tested autonomous agent platform that is already being used commercially.

Looking ahead, the deal positions Meta to compete more aggressively in enterprise AI, productivity tools, and developer platforms, where autonomous agents are expected to become a core interface layer. The acquisition underscores Meta’s belief that the next phase of AI value creation will be driven not just by models, but by systems that can independently reason, act, and deliver measurable outcomes.
