IBM Unveils Power11 Chips to Boost Enterprise AI and Cloud Workloads

09-Jul-2025

IBM has officially introduced its next-generation Power11 chip architecture, designed to drive performance across AI-intensive enterprise, cloud, and mission-critical workloads. The announcement was made on July 8, 2025, and detailed in an IBM press release.

Power11 aims to succeed the Power10 line with enhanced capabilities in scalability, security, and energy efficiency. IBM says the chip is designed for AI inferencing at scale and supports workloads such as SAP HANA, Red Hat OpenShift, and enterprise databases. According to IBM, Power11 will offer 3x improvement in AI inferencing speed and 2x overall performance compared to its predecessor.

The chip will be the backbone for new IBM Power systems, which are expected to be rolled out to data centers starting Q4 2025. IBM also emphasized Power11's role in hybrid cloud environments, with built-in support for confidential computing and secure multi-tenancy, ideal for financial services and healthcare sectors.

IBM notes that its development process for Power11 was accelerated through collaboration with clients and partners in its AI Hardware Center in Albany, New York. The chip’s design focuses on maximizing performance-per-watt, an essential metric for today’s energy-conscious enterprises.

With the Power11 launch, IBM is staking a claim as a leading hardware provider in enterprise AI infrastructure, setting the stage to compete directly with Nvidia and AMD in AI-driven enterprise ecosystems.
