Google rolls out Gemini-powered live translation upgrades across devices
15-Dec-2025
Google has released a major set of Gemini-powered translation upgrades, introducing a new beta feature that streams live speech translations to any connected headphones — expanding a capability previously limited to Pixel Buds.
The update is powered by the Gemini 2.5 Flash Native Audio model, which improves conversational understanding, instruction following, and real-time information handling for live voice agents. The integration works with any Android earbuds and supports translations across more than 70 languages, while preserving tone, pacing, and cadence.
Gemini’s enhanced world knowledge also enables more accurate interpretation of slang and culturally specific language. In addition, Google expanded its Duolingo-style language practice mode to 20 new countries, adding streak tracking and pronunciation feedback.
Together, these updates move Google closer to real-time universal translation, reducing language barriers across everyday conversations, media, and global communication.
