Fiverr Goes Back to Startup Mode, Transforming into an AI-First Company

19-Sep-2025

Fiverr has announced a sweeping transformation, with founder and CEO Micha Kaufman stating that the company is going back to 'startup mode' to become an AI-first company. In an update shared on X (Twitter), Kaufman explained that Fiverr will adopt a leaner, faster, and AI-focused infrastructure, aiming to simplify operations and accelerate innovation. As part of the transformation, Fiverr will part ways with approximately 250 employees across departments, creating a smaller and flatter organization. Kaufman emphasized that this was a difficult but necessary decision to build a modern AI-driven talent marketplace. Fiverr plans to aggressively invest in AI, upskill existing teams, and attract top AI-native talent to shape the future of work. Fiverr has already deployed AI across multiple areas, including Neo, Fiverr Go, Dynamic Matching, customer care, fraud detection, and marketplace integrity. According to Kaufman, these initiatives have demonstrated the power of AI to streamline processes, automate tasks, and unlock new capabilities that were once too costly or complex. The CEO also highlighted Fiverr’s long-term mission: to build a modern talent marketplace with intelligent orchestration of skills, seamless project management, and end-to-end fulfillment 'as easy as buying something on Amazon.' This transformation is aimed at enabling Fiverr to capture new growth opportunities in AI applications, enterprise budgets, and long-term projects. Despite the layoffs, Kaufman assured that Fiverr’s services for its community will remain unaffected, and promised comprehensive support for departing employees, including severance, healthcare, and career assistance.
