Disney has officially announced a three-year licensing deal with OpenAI that allows Sora users to generate videos using more than 200 characters from Disney-owned franchises including Disney Animation, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars. As part of the agreement, Disney is also making a $1 billion equity investment in OpenAI and deploying OpenAI APIs internally across its enterprise products. The agreement explicitly excludes talent likenesses and voices, avoiding unresolved Hollywood IP and labor issues. Select AI-generated creations are expected to stream on Disney+. On the same day, Disney issued a cease-and-desist notice to Google, accusing it of generating unauthorized Disney content at massive scale — signaling a more aggressive IP enforcement stance.
