AMD Acquires ENoSeMi to Accelerate Co-Packaged Optics Innovation
30-May-2025
AMD has officially announced the acquisition of ENoSeMi, a Silicon Valley-based startup specializing in high-speed optical interconnect technologies.
This strategic move is expected to accelerate AMD’s development of co-packaged optics (CPO), a technology that integrates optical and electronic components in a single package to reduce power consumption and improve data bandwidth in data center applications.
The acquisition is a crucial step in AMD’s ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of high-performance computing and networking. ENoSeMi's core expertise lies in designing low-latency, energy-efficient optical PHYs (physical layer components), which are increasingly vital as data center demands surge. With this integration, AMD aims to solidify its leadership in the next generation of high-speed, low-power connectivity solutions, aligning with the industry’s shift toward disaggregated architectures and optical networking.
ENoSeMi’s team of engineers and specialists will join AMD’s Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group. The synergy is expected to drive the commercialization of AMD’s future CPO-enabled platforms across hyperscale, AI, and HPC markets. AMD's acquisition of ENoSeMi also follows its broader strategy of strengthening its IP portfolio and investing in scalable, cutting-edge technologies to support the data explosion driven by artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
This acquisition not only enhances AMD’s product roadmap but also demonstrates its commitment to sustainability. Co-packaged optics offer significant power savings compared to traditional pluggable optics, contributing to the overall energy efficiency of modern data centers.
