Microsoft to Lay Off Over 6,500 Employees in Major Workforce Reduction

14-May-2025 :

Microsoft is set to lay off 3% of its global workforce, impacting over 6,500 employees across departments and locations. The company had 228,000 employees globally as of June.
This move is among Microsoft’s largest workforce reductions since 2023, when it cut 10,000 jobs. A company spokesperson said the decision reflects necessary organizational changes to navigate a dynamic market.
Despite reporting a strong financial quarter with $70.1 billion in revenue and $25.8 billion in profit, Microsoft is proceeding with the layoffs, which it says are not performance-related. The layoffs follow another round earlier this year that was performance-based.
The move aligns with broader trends, as many Big Tech companies including Amazon and Meta have also executed large-scale layoffs over the past year.
